Position: Maintenance Specialist (Levels I, II, III).
Location:
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, 16710 RR 965, Fredericksburg, Texas 78624.

General Description: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs building maintenance and construction work and is responsible for park operations, maintenance, and visitor services at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Performs all phases of maintenance to facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Operates all types of equipment including power mowers, tools, tractors, and other gasoline‑operated equipment. Provides customer service, issues park permits, and performs fee collection duties. Responsible for overseeing work of community service workers, volunteer staff, and other alternative workforces. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks, and interprets the park’s natural resources. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, construction, and repair tasks for park facilities, buildings, and equipment.
Operate power equipment, tools, tractors, and gasoline‑operated machinery.
Provide customer service, issue permits, and collect fees.
Supervise community service workers, volunteer staff, and alternative workforces.
Enforce park rules and regulations and perform resource management tasks.
Interpret park natural resources and perform duties assigned by the supervisor.
Ensure compliance with all agency policies and safety procedures.
Qualifications – Minimum Requirements
Education
– Maintenance Specialist I: 8th‑grade education; Maintenance Specialist II–III: High‑school diploma or GED.
Experience
– Maintenance Specialist I: 1 year in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance; II: 2 years; III: 3 years.
Licensure
– Valid state driver’s license within 30 days of employment. Non‑commercial pesticide/herbicide applicator license within one year.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with the public, customer service, volunteer management, and heavy equipment.
Experience using power equipment.
Knowledge of landscaping, construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
Skill in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, verbal and written communication.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic mathematics, custodial duties, building materials.
Landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.
Construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repairs.
