TPWD – Maintenance Specialist IV (Operations Ranger / Back‑Up Utility Plant Operator)
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) maintains and protects Texas's natural and cultural resources, providing hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities. This Senior‑level Maintenance Specialist IV works in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, supporting water and wastewater treatment systems, buildings, equipment, and park grounds. The role requires independent judgment and strong familiarity with TCEQ regulations. Responsibilities
Perform construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work for water and wastewater treatment systems, buildings, equipment, and park grounds. Operate and maintain various equipment, including power mowers, electric or power tools, tractors, trucks, and other gasoline/diesel/electrical/manual‑operated tools. Support utility plant operations and ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of TPWD and TCEQ reports. Advise park visitors on rules and regulations, provide customer service, and issue permits. Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all agency, division, and branch rules, regulations and procedures. Minimum Qualifications
Completion of high school or GED. Minimum four years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience. Valid State driver’s license. Within one year of employment, obtain a Class “D” Water and Wastewater license issued by the TCEQ. Within two years of employment, obtain a Class “C” Water and Wastewater license issued by the TCEQ. Compliance with the TCEQ Criminal Conviction Guidelines is required for retention of position. Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with the public. Current Class “D” Water and Wastewater license issued by the TCEQ. Current Class “C” Water and Wastewater license issued by the TCEQ. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general maintenance techniques. Knowledge of facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance repairs and techniques. Knowledge of TCEQ rules and regulations on the proper operation and performance standards for water distribution and wastewater systems. Knowledge of general custodial duties and accounting/accountability of revenue collection. Knowledge of industrial safety procedures, equipment, training, and program administration. Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs to buildings, facilities, and grounds. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems. Knowledge of building materials. Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
