Job Description Are you ready to map out a rewarding career serving your state? The Utah National Guard is seeking a detail-oriented GIS Analyst to play a critical role in supporting our Environmental Resources Management missions.
In this position, you will support the Environmental Resources Management Office’s GIS program under the supervision of the GIS Manager. You will utilize advanced GIS software to create, maintain, and analyze spatial data, ensuring results are arranged in a format that effectively supports the organization’s activities.
This role offers a unique mix of technical office work—such as database compilation and spatial analysis—and active support for field data collection. You will collaborate closely with staff and consultants to design and complete projects that are vital to the department's objectives.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Product Creation: Formatting and generating a variety of GIS products, including standard and custom maps, templates, shapefiles, tables, and reports.
Data Management: Extracting, organizing, and performing quality control on data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Analysis & Maintenance: Querying and analyzing spatial data, maintaining geospatial databases, and converting non-GIS information into GIS formats.
Field Support: Facilitating field data collection and supporting the standardization of department-collected data layers.
Process Improvement: Developing and testing GIS applications to meet customer needs and improving quality control processes for spatial data.
Qualifications
Technical Proficiency: Experience using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Pro is essential.
Field Experience: Experience or knowledge of Esri applications such as Field Maps and Survey123 is preferred, along with knowledge of geospatial field methods and equipment.
Core Skills: Strong background in cartography, spatial analysis, and proper data collection/storage.
Software Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as general computer and electronics knowledge.
Cognitive Abilities: Strong deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and the ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
Requirements: You must be able to maintain vehicle privileges with the State of Utah (including a U.S. driver’s license) and obtain clearance for DOD computer access.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS)
Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k)).
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
We have 12 paid holidays.
