Position Overview Seeking an engineer to analyze customer needs to design tooling and metal forming manufacturing processes. The Design Engineer directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering designs for tooling. The role plans and organizes technical teams to deliver effective designs, specifications, and testing for manufacturing tools and related projects. The Engineer uses CAD/CAE technologies to complete detail designs for toolmakers, ensuring designs function properly in production, coordinating technical developments, scheduling, and resolving design and test problems. The role controls expenditures within project budgets, prepares interim and completion reports, and ensures projects are completed on schedule.

What You’ll Be Doing

Plan and implement tool designs from start to completion.

Work with supporting groups to complete assigned designs, including generating SQC/SPC data.

Communicate with vendors to stay abreast of available products, technology, and project-specific requirements.

Obtain specifications of production machinery and equipment for various processes.

Collaborate with tryout personnel on design concepts and make necessary changes to meet design objectives.

Discuss design feasibility with toolmakers and tool room supervisors during tryout of new tools to improve knowledge and design.

Consider cost of manufacture, production, maintainability, and worker safety in all designs.

Document design and design changes in accordance with company policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands The physical demands include sitting, talking, and hearing most of the time. Occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, lift or move up to 10 pounds, and adjust focus for close and distance vision. Schedule This position is overtime‑exempt and will primarily work eight or more hours per day, five days per week based on business needs.

Qualifications Qualified Applicants Will Have

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

At least two years of hands‑on or direct experience with manufacturing, tooling, and/or tool design. A combination of education, internships, or other related engineering and tooling experience may apply.

Highly proficient in Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn new software tools.

Hands‑on experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or Catia, and ability to learn and use other design software tools including COPRA and Master CAM.

Good organizational and time‑management skills.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines; prioritizes appropriately.

Ability to collaborate with coworkers.

Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Ability to develop a strong understanding of production processes and capabilities, and how data is captured and used internally to make decisions.

Ability to detect, diagnose, and troubleshoot potential problems with machinery, tooling, and designs.

Reliable and diligent with the ability to work efficiently while maintaining high standards in quality.

Preferred Applicants Will Also Have

Mechanical Engineering or Design Engineering degree preferred.

Experience with CNC programming, AutoCAD & Inventor, Master CAM programming, and COPRA roll‑design software.

Experience with roll/tooling.

Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to other locations.
