Salary $72,000

Responsibilities

Install, retrofit, repair and modify circuit breakers, motors, motor starters, VFDs, soft‑starters, PLC/DCS systems, UPS systems, ATSs, lighting and other electrical, instrumentation and controls related items in a power and chill water production environment. Accuracy required in all phases of work. May be required to report to work at either Pickle Research Campus or Main Campus.

Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks on low and medium voltage circuit breakers, motors, motor starters, VFDs, soft‑starters, PLC/DCS systems, UPS systems, ATSs, lighting and other electrical, instrumentation and controls related items in a power and chill water production environment. Perform related duties as assigned.

Perform detailed periodic inspections of circuit breakers, motors, motor starters, VFDs, soft‑starters, PLC/DCS systems, UPS systems, ATSs, lighting and other electrical, instrumentation and controls related items in a power and chill water production environment.

Identify and report safety hazards, and correct as necessary. Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas. Ability to work on medium voltage equipment (4160 V and 12 kV) and perform power plant and chill station switchgear maintenance and troubleshooting. Work around hazardous materials and in high temperature and loud environments.

Keep current on all changes to operating and maintenance procedures, new equipment and related systems. Maintain records of equipment repair and inventory of spare parts and other materials. Work in conjunction with other trades or craft personnel in support of systems within a power and chill water production environment, utility tunnels, and campus buildings. Comply with standards of workmanship and safety. May perform elevated work, including utilizing scaffolding and personnel lifts. May work in confined spaces, including boilers, tunnels, and man‑holes.

Follow all university and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identify and report safety hazards. Perform work tasks in a safe manner, wear the proper personal protective equipment, and report near misses and incidents.

Abide by utilities and energy management's set of core values: Safety, Respect, Integrity, Reliability, Teamwork, and Excellence. Work effectively from a remote office or on campus. Drive university vehicle or cart. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in policy UTS157 Section 2.5.4. Perform other related functions as assigned.

Attend staff meetings, safety training or meetings, plant operation and maintenance training courses. Complete job position training certification within 18 months of start date. Carry provided cell phone and participate in rotating on‑call program.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED.

At least five years of related journey‑level experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation and control systems for mechanical, electrical and industrial equipment.

Current Texas journeyman electrician license.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five years related journey‑level experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation and control systems for mechanical, electrical and industrial equipment in a power and chill water production environment.

Current Texas master electrician license.

Driving Required A valid class "C" operator's driver's license is required. Applicants must provide a current three‑year driving record from their state of residence. Non‑Texas residents must obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Physical Requirements

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Manual dexterity and climbing of stairs and ladders.

Ability to lift and move payloads up to 50 lbs.; may also twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.

Work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays).

Operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes and job‑related equipment.

Participate in on‑call program.
