A long standing Metric Geo partner is seeking a licensed Mechanical Engineer who wants to apply their technical knowledge to forensic investigations and failure analysis. The position suits someone with a solid grounding in building systems, machinery or products who is curious about the root causes behind engineering failures.
You will examine incidents involving mechanical systems and equipment, assess evidence and provide clear conclusions to insurers, legal teams and property owners. It offers a strong pathway into expert witness work for engineers ready to expand their skillset and take on more responsibility.
Responsibilities
Conduct site inspections of equipment, building systems and incident scenes
Identify cause and origin of failures across HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, machinery and consumer products
Complete engineering calculations, review drawings and evaluate compliance with relevant codes
Assist with fire and explosion investigations that involve mechanical systems
Produce well structured written reports and support senior experts in presenting findings to clients
Work directly with clients while helping to strengthen relationships through reliable technical delivery
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
Professional Engineer licence in Michigan, or eligibility to obtain shortly after joining
Two to ten years’ experience in mechanical systems, machinery, HVAC or product related engineering
Previous forensic or field investigation exposure is valuable
Strong communication skills and confidence in client facing work
