Recovery Support Specialist (Full-Time) (Venice, CA) (PM Shift)
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Recovery Support Specialist is responsible for individual service coordination for patients enrolled in Phoenix House Adult/Adolescent Residential/Outpatient Services, including supporting a successful transition back into the community. In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, the AOD Counselor carries a patient caseload and supports the successful integration of medical care, substance abuse treatment, and other services within individual treatment plans.
Responsibilities
Oversee coordination of Initial Assessment, Service Authorization Requirements, Treatment Plan, Treatment Plan Review, and goals with other supportive service plans (e.g., general medical care, Group Counseling, Patient Education, Individual Counseling, Crisis Intervention, Family Counseling, Collateral Services, Discharge Services).
Provide individual counseling services.
Facilitate evidence‑based treatment groups for assigned cohorts.
Provide crisis intervention as needed for clients, residents, and families.
Identify and respond to crises that may negatively impact treatment, using such events to enhance treatment efforts when possible.
Comply with productivity standards and maintain an appropriate caseload to reach budgeted daily billable hours.
Submit timely documentation (progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, chart notes) as outlined in policy and measured via productivity reports.
Maintain appropriate records (ongoing progress notes, reports to referring agencies, discharge summaries, clinical case records) required by external stakeholders.
Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings, case conferences, community meetings, program and family gatherings.
Monitor client access to and involvement with treatment and other providers to address barriers to recovery.
Determine a client’s appropriateness for services using ASAM criteria for substance abuse/dependence.
Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver a full spectrum of clinical services.
Communicate with approved family members to provide direct support and encourage family involvement in education, Sunday Family Group, and visitation.
Model and support health and wellness activities and healthy coping skills for clients.
Orient clients to the facility, explaining rule infractions, service availability, clients’ rights, grievance procedures, and costs.
Use appropriate forms and instrumentation to assess clients’ strengths and weaknesses; develop treatment plans with client participation.
Rank problems identified during assessment, establish immediate and long‑term goals, and determine treatment processes and resources.
Explore problem ramifications, engage client feelings, examine solutions, and develop action plans.
Coordinate delivery of service provisions and advocate for access to other needed services.
Interface with referral agencies (SAC, County and Federal Probation Departments, Department of Health Care Services).
Communicate with Nursing Department and consulting physicians to ensure timely, quality medical services.
Identify program needs and suggest improvements to the Clinical Manager and/or VP, Clinical Director.
Comply with local, state, and federal confidentiality laws and regulations.
Attend all required staff training sessions and complete all training on time.
Participate in program and all staff meetings.
Adhere to and promote the Phoenix House Mission, Vision, and Values, acting as a role model.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience / Credentials
High school diploma or equivalent. For RSS 1: registered as an Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Counselor recognized by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). For RSS 2: certified as an AOD Counselor recognized by DHCS.
Six months prior experience in a related field.
Valid California driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and a safe driving record per Phoenix House policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
