Interim Controller
We are actively seeking candidates for an Interim Controller opportunity with a growing software company located in New York, NY. The Interim Controller will provide hands‑on leadership across accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. They will partner closely with executive leadership and cross‑functional teams to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in financial processes while supporting the company’s continued growth. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, intellectually curious, and comfortable stepping into a leadership role where they can quickly add value, bring structure, and guide best practices. Candidates must have 8‑10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including strong experience in a Controller or Assistant Controller position.
This is a 2‑4+ month contract opportunity, paying between $80‑$90/hour (depending on experience).
Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, month‑end close, and financial reporting
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Manage and review revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
Strengthen and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures
Partner with FP&A and executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial insights
Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors
Mentor and support members of the accounting team, providing guidance and continuity
Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and reporting as the company scales
Provide additional support as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
8‑10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including strong experience in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Strong ERP systems skills (NetSuite, Sage, SAP, or similar)
Prior experience within a software or technology‑driven environment required
Deep knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition, and financial close processes
Highly detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Intellectually curious, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a growing organization
