About the Company
Our client is a well‑established construction company located just outside Kenilworth, NJ. With steady growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking a Controller experienced in construction accounting to lead financial operations, strengthen internal controls, and support executive leadership in driving organizational performance.
Role Overview The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial functions, supervise the accounting team, and partner closely with operations, project managers, and senior leadership. This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for someone who excels in job cost accounting, process improvement, and financial strategy within construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee full‑cycle accounting including GL, AP/AR, payroll, cash flow, and bank reconciliations
Manage month‑end and year‑end close, financial statements, and audit preparedness
Lead job costing, WIP schedules, project profitability analysis, and cost controls
Maintain internal controls, policies, and compliance with GAAP
Support forecasting, budgeting, and long‑term financial planning
Review contracts, oversee lien waivers, bonding compliance, and insurance documentation
Improve processes, workflows, and reporting accuracy
Partner with ownership to provide financial insights supporting strategic decisions
What We’re Looking For
7+ years
of progressive accounting experience; construction industry required
Strong background in job costing, WIP reporting, and project‑based financials
Experience supervising accounting teams
Proficiency with construction‑related ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Foundation, CMiC, QuickBooks Enterprise)
Deep understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and audit processes
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, operations‑driven environment
