Base pay range $110,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr
A respected hedge fund is seeking a Public Fund Accountant to join its Public Funds team in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. This position supports the accounting and reporting functions for two publicly traded entities. This role offers exposure to complex financial instruments, regulatory reporting, and the inner workings of a top‑tier investment firm. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, detail‑oriented, and driven to learn, with the analytical depth to handle complex credit products and the composure to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Public Fund Accountant Responsibilities
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for multiple public fund entities
Perform balance sheet and P&L reconciliations and support general ledger maintenance
Collaborate with outside administrators to obtain and verify key data
Assist with budgeting, accruals, and regulatory reporting
Support quarterly and annual audits, working directly with external auditors
Contribute to SEC and public company filings with the finance and reporting teams
Analyze financial data for accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards
Participate in continuous process improvement and automation initiatives
Public Fund Accountant Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
2 - 4 years of fund accounting experience with exposure to mortgage REITs, broker‑dealers, or financial services
Strong understanding of GAAP and fund-level accounting principles
Advanced Excel skills
Strong analytical and communication skills
Experience auditing or working with structured credit, loans, or fixed income products preferred
CPA certification and SQL knowledge are a plus
Self‑starter mentality, organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a dynamic environment
