CLA is looking for an
Assistant Controller
with
Nonprofit
industry experience, to join our
CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services)
practice based in Central Illinois. Opportunities are available in our Peoria, Champaign, Dixon, and Bloomington locations.
As a member of CLA’s CAAS practice, you will be an integral part of the CLA client service team and will work 1:1 with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.
You will be responsible for supervising the accounting team on each engagement which may include a combination of CLA staff and client staff. You are responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial statements and statistical information to the client’s leadership team as well as implementing the best financial and operational practices related to the client’s specific industry.
As An Assistant Controller, You Will
Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client’s accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
Act as a consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
Provide project_management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
Foster and build opportunities for our clients, communities, and people.
Become an industry professional and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
Maintain knowledge of the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
What You Will Need
4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Public accounting experience preferred.
CPA preferred but not required.
Nonprofit experience highly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
Skills/Knowledge
An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting.
Strong organization skills/goal orientation/self-motivation.
Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Communication is clear, concise, and considerate of the needs of others.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and value the different contributions people make.
Proven success in managing work and key client relationships to exceed client expectations.
