CLA is seeking an Assistant Controller with nonprofit industry experience to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice in Central Illinois, with locations in Peoria, Champaign, Dixon, and Bloomington.
Responsibilities
Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client’s accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
Act as a consultant and advisor to clients on best accounting and finance practices.
Maintain project management expertise by handling multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
Foster and build opportunities for clients, communities, and people.
Attend industry-leading events and training to become an industry professional.
Maintain knowledge of the client’s policies, federal and state directives, and current accounting standards.
What You Will Need
4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience (required).
Bachelor’s degree (required; experience may substitute).
Public accounting experience preferred.
CPA preferred but not required.
Nonprofit experience highly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
Skills/Knowledge
Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting.
Strong organizational, goal‑oriented, and self‑motivated skills.
Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and value diverse contributions.
Proven success in managing work and key client relationships to exceed expectations.

Compensation Competitive wages in Illinois: $77,000.00 – $142,000.00 per year, adjusted for geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge.
