Overview The Estimator is responsible for collecting and efficiently tracking historical cost data, and providing conceptual and detailed estimates. As a fully integrated AEC firm, this individual will work with integrated DesignBuild teams to document project scope and match all generated estimates. The role is also a resource for cost information to all disciplines, including inflation projections and developing systems for assessing costs across a broad geography. While primarily estimating, it includes involvement in preconstruction activities such as project scheduling, advance procurement, and constructability analysis.
General Responsibilities
Develop conceptual and detailed construction cost estimates.
Provide quantity takeoffs on projects (area, counts, or volume) as required.
Support preconstruction schedule development and constructability reviews.
Assist project managers in reviewing bid tabs, change order requests, preconstruction, and value engineering analysis.
Maintain an accurate sub‑contractor list for pricing information or bidding.
Collect and efficiently track historic construction cost data.
Maintain a library of unit costs available for use by all Epstein disciplines.
Develop strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
Provide an ongoing assessment of projected inflation and cost differentials across geographic markets.
Requirements
Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management.
4–7 years of proven estimating experience on diverse project types, including conceptual and detailed estimates.
Strong knowledge of construction engineering principles: materials, methods, sequencing, scheduling, and estimating.
Strong experience with industrial projects is beneficial.
Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
Strong mathematical aptitude.
Strong analytical and value engineering skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project) recommended.
Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and Pantera Bid Management beneficial but not required.
Compensation Salary range: $90,000 – $125,000 annually. Individual compensation depends on education, experience, training, qualifications, licensure/certifications, and location. Employees may also receive discretionary annual bonuses and are eligible for the company’s 401(k) and Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
