Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities
Provides Mechanical Engineering Services including utility plant boilers, associated steam and condensate pump and piping infrastructure; chillers and associated condenser wells, pumps, and piping infrastructure; plant and building HVAC systems, process and fluid flow systems, heat and energy transfer system, plumbing systems and instrumentation and control systems to make substantial renovations and/or upgrades to facilities utilized by the University community. Develops engineering designs and specifications necessary to produce construction documents per the Florida Administrative Code Section 61G15 Chapter 34. Performs detailed estimates of labor and materials required to implement construction documents. Provides construction administration services including submittal review, commissioning review and inspections.
Responsible for interpreting University policies and federal, state and local codes including Florida Building Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, ASME, ASPE and ANSI relating to mechanical construction projects. Maintains and updates the FSU design guideline standards. Reviews mechanical engineering designs and specifications for all minor and major projects that are performed by outside engineering consultants for compliance with FSU design guidelines, sound engineering practices, cost effectiveness, energy efficiency and maintainability.
Responsible for supervising the Mechanical Engineering subsection of the FSU Engineering Services department. Signs and seals drawings and specifications prepared under their direct supervision.
Coordinates and administers purchasing, procurement, budgeting, and administrative management for mechanical projects. Assists in developing the campus and utility master planning to facilitate University growth. Assists in developing both the Utilities and Maintenance 5‑year capital budget plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and registered as a professional Mechanical Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.
A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or ability to obtain upon hire.
