Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), independently manage and oversee the Human Resources/Academic Personnel team supporting the School of Medicine Basic Sciences Administrative cluster, which includes the departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Cell Biology & Human Anatomy, and Physiology & Membrane Biology. Provide high‑level consultation, leadership, analysis, and strategic planning on academic personnel issues and oversee recruitment and hiring for approximately 80 faculty members across Sacramento and Davis campuses. Manage academic personnel actions, admission and retention policies, and work with staff and student personnel on employment actions, compensation, classification, and benefits. Serve as a resource to employees and supervisors on contracts, policy interpretation, probation, employee relations, performance management, discipline, and compliance with state/federal laws, UC policies, and collective bargaining agreements. Supervise and evaluate subordinate work, develop process improvement models, gather audit data, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Administration, Health Administration, Public Administration, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and experience with academic affairs issues including recruitment, appointments, faculty advancement, retention, leaves of absence, and salary administration.

Analytical skills to research and interpret data and policy, forecast impacts, and develop solutions.

Experience supervising, coaching, and motivating staff or project teams.

Experience handling sensitive HR data with confidentiality.

Experience analyzing key employment issues and integrating information.

Proficiency with standard business software (word processing, email, calendaring, spreadsheets).

Comprehensive knowledge of UC academic personnel policies, procedures, and practices.

Understanding of Academic Senate governance and faculty advancement processes.

Visionary leadership, supervisory strengths, & ability to manage complex workflows.

Strong policy interpretation and advisory skills, knowledge of HR practices and employment law.

Capacity to anticipate issues and act proactively.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Human Resources Administration, Health Administration, Public Administration, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience with California labor law, UC Davis policies, and collective bargaining contracts for staff, students, and academic appointments.

Experience with UC Davis internal HR and Academic Personnel systems.

Experience in human resources and academic personnel practices at UC Davis School of Medicine.

Salary: $7,891.66 – $14,775.00 monthly (Budgeted: $7,891.67 – $11,333.33)
