Summary This role will support and advance patient care by applying engineering skills to healthcare IT needs. This is a consultative position that will provide IT education, quality control, implementations, and vendor management. Primary goals/objectives will include project planning, life cycle analysis of equipment, and process improvement initiatives.
What you will do
Develop a 5-year capital equipment plan (for existing & new operations) including:
Needs analysis/assessment model
An analysis of cost/benefit, total cost of ownership (TCO), return on investment (ROI)
Comparative evaluation of available technologies
Monitors medical device hazards/recalls reports and insures appropriate follow-up (communication, corrective action & documentation)
Review service options for major clinical systems to determine optimum service plan
Monitor regulatory developments and implement appropriate compliance measures (TJC, DNV, State & Local)
Conduct investigations of incidents involving medical technology, analyze findings and implement or make recommendations for corrective measures including root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA)
Conduct regular client surveys to assess the perceived effectiveness of clinical engineering services; analyze results and recommend appropriate service and process changes
Implement process improvements (both personal & program-related) that add value by improving quality, safety, savings, efficiency, work environment
Consistent with the needs of clinical engineering & QA department and other team members, may perform other duties as requested or assigned
Maintain technical library and database with information critical to the support of devices and systems in assigned area(s)
Qualifications
Bachelors or Master of Science degree in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering or related area
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering and clinical systems support
Strong written and verbal communication and team building skills across functional areas. Effective role model
Demonstrated project management & planning skills
Certification (completed or in process) preferred in Clinical Engineering (i.e., Certified Clinical Engineer /CCE)
Accountability – takes ownership of assigned work and follows items through to completion
Communication – clearly expresses thoughts and ideas both in written and verbal communications, provides timely information
Financial Acumen – Considers financial impact of all decisions

Safety Requirements
Maintain a safe working environment for self and others if they come in contact within the biomed area in accordance with the facility’s policies
Must follow OSHA guidelines in regard to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, radiation, sharp instruments and/or tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices
Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot & cold ranges of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish colors
Must be able be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely
