Job Title: Systems Engineer II VDI
Location: Pocatello, ID, Clarksburg, WV, Huntsville, AL
Clearance Level: TS/SCI and ability to achieve and maintain a CI Polygraph
SUMMARY The Contractor will be responsible for the engineering, deployment, and maintenance of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) systems within the FBI. This includes supporting predominantly Omnissa Horizon (formerly VMware Horizon) and some Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop environments.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES VDI Design & Implementation
Design and deploy VDI solutions, including planning, requirements analysis, implementation, training, and ongoing support.
Engineer and maintain Microsoft OS baseline images for FBI endpoints, ensuring compliance with DISA STIG and FBI security standards.
Support mixed Windows and Linux environments.
System Engineering & Support
Support server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V).
Maintain and update system documentation, including inventory, patch levels, and configuration details.
Provide 3rd‑level support and timely problem resolution.
Automation & Optimization
Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline provisioning, patching, and maintenance.
Implement orchestration tools to enhance deployment speed, standardization, and user experience.
Monitor and optimize system and application performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
Security & Compliance
Ensure systems meet performance, security, availability, and user experience requirements.
Maintain backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies.
Assist with system accreditation and continuous monitoring.
Collaboration & Documentation
Liaise with vendors and internal IT teams for issue resolution.
Provide real‑time system performance dashboards and reporting.
Author Tier 1 and Tier 2 support documentation and FAQs.
Conduct knowledge transfer and training for government staff using industry best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS Education, Background, and Years of Experience
Minimum of 6 years in designing and implementing virtual desktop, application, and server platforms.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Skills
Virtualization Platforms: Omnissa Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V
Storage Infrastructure: vSAN, Fibre Channel, NFS
Management Tools: MECM, MSCSP, Microsoft Office Suite
Scripting & Automation: PowerShell, Python, etc. for provisioning, IaC orchestration, and system efficiency
Directory Services: Active Directory, GPO Management
Certifications - VMware Certified Professional 6 – Desktop and Mobility (VCP6‑DTM), Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization (CCA‑V), Nutanix Platform Professional (NPP)
Other: Load Balancers, Microsoft SQL, Application Virtualization
