Learn About a Day in the Life of a Monitor Technician Responsibilities

Provide advanced ECG monitoring with a focus on assessment of ECG strips and arrhythmia interpretation.

Monitor alerts from patient wearable devices and include escalation to a Virtual RN.

Apply troubleshooting skills to recognize monitoring problems, identify probable causes, and seek solutions to correct the problem.

Identify and respond to potentially life‑threatening rhythm changes, initiate codes, record rhythms during code, and conduct continuous EKG monitoring with accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias and interval measurements.

Respond promptly to all monitor alarms.

Manage multiple technology platforms and develop collaborative relationships with other staff via remote platforms.

Qualifications Job Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.

Successfully complete the cardiac monitoring exam.

BLS certification obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Ability to demonstrate arrhythmia recognition.

Preferred Job Requirements

Associate degree in a related field.

One (1) year in the specialty area, rhythm recognition skill set.
