Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations. Responsibilities

Respond to heating and cooling trouble calls, interface with customers, troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic controls systems and components to maintain HVAC comfort control in university buildings.

Perform preventive maintenance and calibrate electronic and pneumatic controls and sensors to prevent failures and keep building HVAC equipment operating at optimum performance for maximum energy conservation.

Renovate and upgrade control systems to provide efficient operation of HVAC equipment and improve building comfort.

Assist others as requested to troubleshoot HVAC and other equipment, limit equipment downtime, and resolve concerns related to campus HVAC equipment.

Interpret and work from drawings, specifications, and sketches for assigned projects to ensure university standards are maintained. Commission control systems for new and renovation construction projects to ensure final control installation meets standards and functional requirements. Perform work independently from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with established safety procedures.

Research and recommend repair components and test equipment to assist in procuring components. Create material lists and acquire materials for efficient work. Keep accurate records of materials used and maintain daily time reports to complete work and document details of the functions performed. Keep accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of all systems.

Assist other shops and team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Assist outside entities. Provide timely and courteous customer service, keep supervisors up‑to‑date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations met.

Gather building HVAC and mechanical field data to facilitate analysis and improvement of HVAC performance. Participate in the On‑Call Program.

Required Qualifications

High school or GED.

Three years of journey‑level experience with the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of pneumatic and DDC instrumentation and control systems.

Demonstrated excellent communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in a technical field.

More than three years of journey‑level experience with the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of pneumatic and DDC instrumentation and control systems.

International Society of Automation Certified Controls Systems Technician (ISA CCST) Level 1 certification.

Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting.

Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations.

Demonstrated ability to handle responses. (Note: Might be a typo but retained for authenticity.)

Demonstrated ability to give a verbal sequence to a response.

Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment.

Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.

Salary Range $52,875 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions

This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.

Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.

May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.

May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.

May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.

May be required to operate job related equipment.

May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.

May drive University vehicles. If driving University vehicles, may be required to maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.

Work Shift 40 hours a week, five 8-hour days, or possibly four 10-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays possible.
