DEFINITION:

Assigned to a Middle school and High school campus as needed to provide for safety and security of students, staff and community by patrolling buildings and grounds both during school hours as well as before and after school.

Essential Functions

Reports illegal activities, unsafe conditions or problems with security to the principal or designee.

Performs site assessments and submits work orders for repairs.

Maintains a closed campus by locking gates and staffing the guard shacks.

Recommends improvements in security and safety of facilities to the principal or designee.

Monitors all non-school personnel and directs them to the office or off the school premises.

Evaluates the seriousness of a given situation and calls for assistance if necessary.

Assists in resolving conflicts and similar problem situations between students.

Assists with implementing school-wide student management plans and incentive programs.

Assists with making home phone calls and visits to discuss behavior incidents with parents.

Directs all general traffic and bus traffic on campus parking lots.

Maintains radio communication with school personnel.

Detains students for alleged misconduct and delivers students to appropriate authorities which may include counselors, administrators and/or police officials.

Enforces all policies relating to student discipline and attendance.

Supervises students during lunch periods, before/after school, in the cafeteria, library, hallways, and bus lines.

Fulfills other related duties as assigned.

Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.

Attends work regularly and on time.

Occasionally performs work beyond a standard 40‑hour work week when the workload requires.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.

Knowledge of personal protection equipment.

Knowledge of District policies and procedures.

Knowledge of Google applications (Gmail, Drive, Meets, etc.).

Skill in identifying misconduct or unauthorized visitors.

Skill in resolving conflict issues.

Skill in preparing, documenting and maintaining reports.

Skill in following oral and written instructions.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, coworkers, supervisor, and the public.

Physical Requirements Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent driving, walking and standing. Work may involve lifting and carrying objects. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

On‑the‑job training as specified by the District, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Must possess an Arizona driver license.

First aid/CPR certification preferred.

Fingerprint background check.

Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Immunizations.

Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
