Description Job Description:

A reliability specialist is responsible for optimizing and improving the reliability and performance of equipment, systems, tools, and processes within an organization, implementation of reliability programs, and supporting maintenance and engineering teams. Their main objective is to minimize downtime, reduce costs, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

A reliability specialist plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement, reliability, and efficiency within an organization, ultimately contributing to enhanced productivity, reduced costs, and improved customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Reliability Improvement Initiatives: Develop and implement initiatives to enhance the reliability and performance of equipment, processes, tools, and systems. This may involve introducing new maintenance techniques, recommending design changes, optimizing spare parts inventory, or implementing reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM) programs.

Condition monitoring: Assisting in the implementation and execution of condition monitoring techniques, such as vibration analysis, thermography, and lubrication analysis. Collecting and analyzing data from monitoring tools and instruments to identify early signs of deterioration or potential failures.

Preventive maintenance support: Assisting in the development of preventive maintenance based on schedules, work orders, or instructions.

Collaboration and teamwork: Collaborating with maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams to share information, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to improvement initiatives. Participating in team meetings and providing input based on observations and data analysis.

Root Cause Analysis: Perform root cause analysis (RCA) to identify the underlying reasons for equipment failures and reliability issues.

Failure Analysis: Investigate and perform root cause analysis (RCA) to identify the underlying reasons for equipment failures and reliability issues. This involves working closely with maintenance teams, engineers, and vendors to analyze failed components or systems and identify opportunities for improvement.

Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret reliability data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Prepare reports and present findings to management, highlighting key metrics, performance indicators, and recommendations for enhancing reliability and reducing downtime.

Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including maintenance, operations, and engineering, to implement reliability improvement initiatives and projects. Provide training and support to plant personnel on reliability concepts, best practices, and new technologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business, Associate Technical or Business Degree, or a high school diploma with 4 plus years of relevant experience. Certifications or additional education in maintenance management or leadership is a plus.

Demonstrated knowledge of reliability principles: Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts, methodologies, and best practices. Understanding of preventive maintenance strategies, reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM), and failure analysis techniques.

Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders and convey technical information to non‑technical audiences. Proven interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and teamwork across different departments and levels of the organization.

Data analysis and reporting: Proficiency in data management and analysis using tools such as spreadsheets, databases, or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Ability to generate clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate reliability‑related information.

Organizational skills: Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to coordinate and prioritize activities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines. Attention to detail in maintaining accurate records, documentation, and reporting.

Problem‑solving abilities: Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify root causes of reliability issues, analyze data, and recommend effective solutions. Ability to think critically and make data‑driven decisions to improve equipment reliability.

Team player: Ability to lead and work well in a team environment, collaborating with cross‑functional teams and building strong working relationships. Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and evolving organizational setting.

Ability to travel domestically, 50% of the time.
