Position Summary The Business Development Manager will provide day‑to‑day support and strategic business development and marketing guidance to our corporate finance and securities practices. He/she will work closely with Practice Group Leaders, Marketing and BD senior management team, and other administrative staff to develop and execute key initiatives and business plan objectives.
Job Relationships Reports to the Director of Business Development and manages a junior department member. Must be able to work closely with Practice Group Leaders, members of the Marketing and Business Development Department and interact with all legal and business services professionals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Work with Department/Practice Group Leaders on developing strategic priorities and executing business development plans, including identifying new business and visibility opportunities.
Spearhead all business development, marketing and client targeting activities for assigned practice/initiatives.
Collaborate with partners, the marketing and business development team and other business service contacts to identify and facilitate opportunities to cross‑serve corporate clients.
Assist attorneys with new business opportunities and pitch meetings, including:
Holding briefing discussions to understand and strategize around the opportunity
Facilitating market, industry and client/prospect research to inform the approach
Writing new business proposals and producing responses to requests for information/requests for proposals (RFIs/RFPs).
Preparing pitch materials, including one pagers, infographics and similar leave‑behind items
Supporting follow‑up and debrief activities post‑pitch
Work in partnership with the Communications team to identify profile‑raising opportunities and thought leadership relating to market trends and issues of the day.
Work with the Events teams in relation to client events and conference sponsorships.
Lead, enhance and initiate lead generation processes to support growth of the Firm’s client base and revenue.
Collaborate with research team to conduct ongoing market research and compile competitive intelligence relevant to specific practices.
Manage all facets including strategy and follow‑up of the directories submission process for relevant practice areas.
Knowledge Management
Develop and oversee maintenance of practice marketing materials, such as matter experience lists, practice descriptions, biographies and standard pitch decks that can be customized.
Oversee the league table collection and submission process; provide regular analysis of league table rankings to maximize rankings and visibility.
Oversee maintenance of practice related information in proposal database and matter information database.
Maintain online reporting system tracking proposals/pitches, including relevant documents, and evaluate progress by client/prospect, industry and type of services proposed.
Qualifications
Education: 4‑year College degree required, preferably in business, marketing, communications and/or liberal arts.
Experience: 6+ years in business development and marketing and/or in practice management, preferably within a law firm or professional services firm. Minimum 3 years specifically providing business development support to a practice.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong communications, team, project management, organization and planning abilities.
Experience working with transactional practices preferred, including capital markets and finance.
Superb client service and interpersonal skills, communicating effectively verbally and in writing with attorneys and staff at all levels.
Strong intellectual curiosity, resourcefulness, attention to process and detail, able to work under pressure and prioritize competing responsibilities.
Self‑motivated, act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
Additional Requirements Attendance: All positions require punctuality and regular attendance. This is not a remote role; candidates will be expected to work in office following our hybrid work schedule of 3 days / week in office.
Technological Skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite and have experience with corporate and legal industry research tools. Experience with marketing‑related databases preferred.
Salary: New York Salary Range $150,000–$170,000 USD.
