Maintain, set up, diagnose, calibrate, adjust and interpret data from FMO Flush and Resistance Weld Ultrasonic Microscopes. Must have working knowledge and experience of ultrasonic theory and applications for longitudinal and shear wave inspection of nuclear products. Must be familiar with a wide variety of automated measurement and inspection systems used by Quality Assurance. Must be capable of passing Quality visual test as described in PRI 20.05. Must be certified as an SNT‑TC‑1A Level II in ultrasonics.
This is a 2nd shift position which works Monday–Friday 2 PM–10 PM. Other working hours and supporting OT may vary to support business need. Starting pay is $41.96 /hour. After 6 months of satisfactory performance the pay will increase to $42.61 /hour. In addition, there is a $1 /hour bonus for working an evening shift schedule, plus $2 /hour area bonus.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate shear wave amplitude, shear wave depth, longitudinal wave thickness, longitudinal echo amplitude imaging data from flush weld ultrasonic microscopes to determine acceptability of suspect welds.
Evaluate longitudinal and shear wave‑imaging data from flush weld ultrasonic microscopes to verify proper setup and sensitivity of inspection equipment.
Perform design (size) changeovers on flush and resistance weld ultrasonic microscopes to include adjustment of transducers, electronic setting of gates, verification of sensitivity and measurement accuracy.
Perform evaluation of imaging data and report data from ultrasonic microscopes to trouble‑shoot and correct hardware, software and setup related problems.
Select, prepare and maintain suitable welds as dimensional and shear wave UT standards for first and final weld ultrasonic microscopes.
Work with Quality and Technical Resources personnel to develop detailed ultrasonic set‑up techniques and procedures for new products and processes.
Assist and work with maintenance personnel to repair and maintain ultrasonic microscopes.
Work with Production, Technical Resources and Quality Assurance personnel to assure manufacturing schedules and objectives are met.
Keep facilities, equipment and work areas clean and orderly and adhere to good housekeeping practices.
Follow safety regulations and procedures while performing assigned duties and tasks.
The majority of functions performed will be indoors in a ventilated laboratory or factory environment.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Technical school associate degree or training in NDE disciplines, electronics, instrumentation desired.
SNT‑TC‑1A Level II certification in ultrasonics with minimum 5 years of experience preferably in the nuclear power generation business.
Minimum of 1 year experience in reading and interpreting complex prints, schematics, manuals and instructions for equipment operation and maintenance.
Experience using state‑of‑the‑art ultrasonic and electronic equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, digital analyzers and CAMAC based electronics.
Minimum of 1 year experience with interactive computer imaging systems.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be capable of passing Quality visual test as described in PRI 20.05.
Must be able to work in both a laboratory and factory environment where lifting of heavy apparatus, equipment or product (up to 50 lb.) is required.
Must be capable of passing all requirements for unrestricted access to controlled areas.
Must have sufficient depth of knowledge of ultrasonics to recognize conditions adverse to quality, which are not specifically or normally covered by established planning.
Must be flexible to work additional shifts to provide coverage as needed.
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export‑controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
