Custodial Supervisor – University of Virginia
The University of Virginia invites applications for a Custodial Supervisor within FM’s Academic Zone. The position provides an opportunity to make a significant impact on campus life, ensuring that all academic buildings are clean, welcoming, and safe. This role involves overseeing custodial operations across classrooms, offices, labs, and historic buildings.
Shift: Monday – Friday, 5 am–1:30 pm. The position is based in Charlottesville, VA and must be performed fully on‑site.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management:
Guide, mentor, and inspire a team of 10–15 frontline staff, ensuring high standards of service through supervision, coaching, and performance management.
Operational Excellence & Collaboration:
Oversee scheduling and execution of routine and special custodial tasks, ensuring operations are safe, efficient, and meet the highest standards. Coordinate closely with maintenance leadership.
Training & Development:
Lead training initiatives to keep the team proficient in the latest custodial techniques and safety protocols.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Build positive relationships with facility occupants, staff, students, visitors, and department leadership.
Project Management & Additional Responsibilities:
Manage small to medium‑sized custodial projects, ensuring timely, within‑scope, and budget‑compliant completion.
Duties
Create and implement custodial work schedules for assigned areas.
Supervise team members and provide constructive feedback.
Ensure all custodial projects are completed on time and professionally.
Track purchases and maintain inventory records.
Conduct and submit routine safety and cleanliness inspections.
Work independently, proactively manage workload, and anticipate operational or small‑scale projects.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum two years in a service industry, preferably custodial/housekeeping. Leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
Licensure:
Valid driver’s license with no or positive points balance and at least 2 years of driving experience.
Compensation & Benefits Anticipated hiring range: $24.50 – $26.50 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience.
$2,000 sign‑on bonus for all new hires.
This is a full‑time position with University‑of‑Virginia benefits.
Physical Demands Involves working with equipment/machinery, standing on different surfaces, walking extensively, stooping, bending, moderate lifting, and climbing stairs.
