Job Overview
The Headhunters have once again been engaged by a multinational automotive supplier to identify and hire an Operations Manager for a growing plant in N. Oakland County, Michigan. This is a newly created position with high upside due to anticipated retirements in the current leadership team. The company is a global leader in cutting edge automotive component manufacturing at a plant with a headcount near 400. To be considered, in addition to operations experience candidates must have proven launch and program management experience plus new product development (NPD) or prototype experience. Candidates should also have experience in plants exceeding 100k sf with high automation and complexity, and an aptitude for data driven analysis and risk reduction. The best candidate backgrounds are most likely from automotive, aerospace, electronics, or possibly heavy equipment or white goods. Our client is targeting a $145-165k base salary with 20-25% annual target bonus and generous benefits. We will consider some reasonable stretch or relocation for spot‑on candidates, if needed.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership directing a cross‑functional team in the development and production release for multiple projects.
Collaborate with vendors, customers and other manufacturing sites to establish, select, procure, and install equipment to support the launch of new programs.
Assist in continuous improvement efforts using tools like Six Sigma, DMAIC, 5S, 5 Why, Gemba, Kaizen events, KPIs, Paretos, and data analysis.
Ensure milestones, issue lists, and risk assessments are created and maintained plus lead project status for program reviews.
Starting with equipment launches, coordinate manufacturing activities ensuring production and quality meet specs, timing, and customer satisfaction.
Lead cross‑functional teams (Supply Chain, NPD / Prototype, Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Operations) to bring product designs seamlessly into production.
Supervise large‑scale, multi‑platform and multi‑OEM launches and achieve milestones.
Ad‑hoc projects and other duties necessary to support plant operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is required.
A minimum of 5+ years of program management and manufacturing leadership.
Automotive or aerospace experience is highly desired, and some electronics experience is a strong plus.
Strong and proven background in plant operations, assembly, Lean, quality, project management, and supply chain.
Excellent oral communication skills are required, including the ability to chair meetings, make presentations, and speak equally as well in either the board room or the shop floor.
