Job Summary The Construction Estimator at MasTec in Austin and Northlake, TX assists with the administrative function of current projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and subcontractor take‑offs for bid projects.
The role supports Project teams and works with vendors and personnel from other departments.
Responsibilities
Prepare accurate take‑off materials, subcontracting, and production items for projects.
Acquire plans for projects.
Bid accurately using Bid2Win software.
Prepare and deliver bids.
Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders for projects.
Assist operations in administrative duties on projects.
Furnish bid information for tracking purposes, follow bid process, and work on improving bid process.
Prepare job files for operations.
Keep job log up‑to‑date.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience and proficiency with Bid2Win software.
Knowledge of methods and specifications in the utility construction field.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, business management skills, and general knowledge of OSHA regulations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
Previous utility construction project estimator experience.
Advanced proficiency with Bid2Win software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This role operates in a field environment and requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and twisting.
It also involves working in inclement weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
Visual acuity and precise hand‑eye coordination are essential.
