Job Summary The Construction Estimator in Richmond, VA assists with administrative tasks for current projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and subcontractor take‑offs for bid projects. The role supports project teams and collaborates with vendors and cross‑department personnel.

Responsibilities

Prepare accurate take‑offs for materials, subcontracting, and production items for projects.

Acquire plans for projects.

Bid accurately using Bid2Win software.

Prepare and deliver bids.

Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders for projects.

Assist operations in administrative duties on projects.

Furnish bid information for tracking purposes, follow bid process, and improve bid process.

Prepare job files for operations.

Keep job log up‑to‑date.

Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience and proficiency with Bid2Win software.

Knowledge of methods and specifications in the utility construction field.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with many variables in standardized situations.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Excellent organizational and communication skills, business‑management skills, and general knowledge of OSHA regulations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Requirements

Previous utility construction project estimator experience.

Ability to use Bid2Win software efficiently and proficiently.

Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners. The position is primarily sedentary, with some filing or lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
