Receiving Inspector
JM Fabrication is seeking a Receiving Inspector responsible for verifying that all incoming materials, parts, and outside-processed items conform to purchase order requirements and basic quality expectations before they enter production.
Primary Responsibilities
Receive and inspect raw materials, machined parts, fabricated components, and outside-processed items
Compare received items directly against:
Purchase order requirements, packing slips, certifications, and documentation
Verify part numbers, revisions, quantities, and condition
Measurement and Inspection
Perform basic dimensional checks using standard inspection tools, including:
Verify obvious features such as overall dimensions, hole sizes, thickness, and threads
Identify damage, corrosion, surface defects, or handling issues
Escalate complex measurements, tight tolerances, or ambiguous conditions to Quality
Documentation Review
Verify presence and correctness of required documentation, including:
Material certifications, certificates of conformance (CoC), heat lot numbers
Plating or processing certifications when applicable
Ensure documentation matches PO requirements, material type, specification, revision, and quantity
Flag missing, incorrect, or incomplete documentation immediately
Receiving and Inventory Control
Perform accurate counts of received items
Identify overages, shortages, and mismatches
Ensure proper identification and traceability labeling before release to inventory or production
Segregate and clearly identify nonconforming material
Communication and Escalation
Communicate discrepancies promptly to Purchasing, Quality, and Operations
Prevent nonconforming material from entering production under any circumstances
Support corrective actions related to receiving issues
Required Qualifications
Experience in manufacturing receiving or inspection environment
Ability to read and interpret purchase orders and basic drawings
Proficiency with basic measurement tools
Strong attention to detail, no guessing, no assumptions
Willingness to stop bad material even when it slows things down
Basic computer skills for ERP or receiving systems
Preferred Experience
Aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environment
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO-style quality systems
Experience working with metal raw stock and machined components
Prior experience with ERP systems such as ProShop
