Customs Compliance Manager
Position Overview
A growing international freight forwarding in the ORD area are seeking an experienced Customs Compliance Manager to oversee and strengthen its U.S. import compliance function. This role is responsible for ensuring full adherence to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, while leading compliance programs, audits, and a small team of customs professionals.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical customs knowledge, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to risk management and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all customs compliance activities related to U.S. imports, including entry processing and duty management.
Audit customs entries to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to internal SOPs.
Prepare and submit Post Summary Corrections (PSCs) and protests as required.
Manage Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) entries, consumption entries, and related compliance processes.
Ensure timely and accurate payment of customs duty statements.
Maintain compliance with current tariff programs, including Section 232, provisional tariffs, reciprocal tariffs, and exclusions.
Coordinate and liaise with Partner Government Agencies (PGAs) to meet regulatory requirements.
Oversee Importer Security Filing (ISF) submissions and ensure all deadlines are met.
Utilize the ACE Portal for reporting, monitoring, and compliance oversight.
Manage and optimize customs brokerage processes within CargoWise.
Lead, train, and develop a team of customs compliance professionals, including performance management and mentoring.
Stay up to date with regulatory and trade policy changes, communicating impacts and updates to internal stakeholders.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and compliance best practices across the organization.
Required Qualifications
Active U.S. Customs Broker License (mandatory).
Minimum 5 years of hands‑on entry writing experience, including FTZ and consumption entries.
Minimum 5 years of management or leadership experience within customs compliance or brokerage operations.
Strong working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and trade compliance programs.
Proven experience handling PSCs, protests, and duty payment processes.
Familiarity with ISF filings and PGA requirements.
In‑depth knowledge of Section 232 tariffs, provisional tariffs, reciprocal tariffs, and exclusion programs.
Proficiency with CargoWise, ACE Portal reporting, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with global trade compliance and broader supply‑chain operations.
Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and duty drawback programs.
Strong cross‑functional communication and stakeholder management skills.
