Shift Coordinator (Rio Tinto – Underground) Join us as a Shift Coordinator to oversee the ongoing construction and day‑to‑day operation of the Underground Mine in the Kennecott Mine, Salt Lake City area.

About The Role The role will work closely with and in support of the Underground Team and various contractor groups, on a rotating schedule for day and night shifts, weekdays and weekends. The position reports to the Superintendent – Underground Operations.

Responsibilities

Fulfill Underground Safety Standard requirements as needed.

Oversee and coordinate underground work activities.

Integrate planning with surface and underground operations.

Oversee Underground Mine Contractors.

Ensure proper permitting.

Quality assurance through daily inspections.

Coordinate pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities.

Coordinate day‑to‑day work scope between contractor teams and active operations.

Manage project daily reports and documentation.

Support team members with their roles and responsibilities.

Ensure safe execution of RTK Underground projects through detailed planning and compliance with RTKC HSE standards, contractor management standards, permitting processes, construction contract scope, schedule, cost, engineering and design specifications, and quality.

Support RTK Underground team in developing and executing RTKC HSE and contractor management documentation, scope of work documents, project execution plan documents, and quality assurance/commissioning execution and documentation.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

7+ years experience in an underground mining capacity.

2+ years supervisor experience.

Underground development and stope mining experience.

Underground construction experience.

Problem‑solving skills.

Uncompromised commitment to safety and a Zero Harm working environment.

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Prior use of SAP.

Beneficial if you have:

Experience in Critical Risk Management.

Strong communication and conflict resolution skills – incident management.

Quality assurance, pre‑commissioning, and commissioning experience.

Schedule development and management experience.
