Assistant Front End Department Manager
Base pay: $20.00/yr - $25.00/yr
Role Overview:
As the Assistant Head Cashier, you are a key player in overseeing and managing all aspects of the cashier department, including profitability, guest service, and team leadership. You will provide every guest with an exceptional shopping experience, listen to and respond to their needs, and serve as the subject‑matter expert for your department. All Assistant Head Cashiers are expected to be hospitality‑driven, exude positive energy, be dependable, and possess basic math and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including proper handling of all transactions and corresponding documentation (i.e., refunds, check approval, employee discounts, price overrides).
Maintain possession of the register key while on duty, including throughout all transactions requiring key use and code authorization.
Take full responsibility for all transactions requiring key holder involvement, such as voids, refunds, and associate discounts.
Observe transactions requiring override to ensure accuracy and proper procedure.
Protect company assets.
Communicate issues promptly to store management.
Monitor front‑end associate discrepancies, such as frequent/patterned voids and register discrepancies, and report them immediately.
Train and supervise all front‑end associates on policies and procedures.
Establish and maintain a professional environment to ensure the best experience for customers and associates.
Schedule coverage for the front end, including daily break coverage.
Maintain a neat, clean, organized, and safe front‑end area.
Handle returns and credits daily according to company procedures.
Perform duties assigned by Manager on Duty.
Support guest engagement programs to exceed the Ultimate Gourmet Experience.
Exhibit professionalism in all guest relations and execute effective service recovery when needed.
Direct and supervise all front‑end and assigned department activities, including monitoring guest traffic, service level, implementing service programs, ensuring cleanliness, safety, inventory, and ordering supplies.
Monitor overall department performance and communicate management when employment status changes or corrective actions are warranted.
Drive results through motivation, team building, and staff follow‑up.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a front‑end/cashier department in a grocery store environment.
Flexibility schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to perform physical requirements of the job: standing during scheduled hours, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, lifting, pushing and pulling items weighing 20–50 pounds.
Ability to work in a temperature‑controlled environment.
Ability to show initiative, work with limited supervision, and be self‑motivated.
Ability to hire, train, inspire and develop a team.
Team builder and brand ambassador.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Proficient computer knowledge and skills; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
