Job Title Senior Field Service Technician
Job Location 1300 Underwood, Deer Park, TX 77536
Primary Function The Senior Technician will perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start-ups of high voltage substations. Senior Technicians have responsibility as crew leads, serving as a point of contact with clients and ensuring safe work practices on each job.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear (protective relays and relaying systems, circuit breakers, power transformers, current and potential transformers, meters, transducers, power system metering, power cables, grounding systems, motors and motor starters, station batteries and chargers, alarm systems and annunciators, and personal protective equipment).
Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis. Make recommendations for corrective action and/or repairs.
Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended.
Represent the company professionally when communicating with clients.
Communicate effectively with the company management team on a regular basis regarding project status and the scheduling of manpower and equipment.
Make safety a top priority at all times; the company has zero tolerance for violations.
Conduct safety meetings and complete JSTA’s.
Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent is preferred. Minimum ten plus years of electrical testing, maintenance, and start-up of high voltage substations is required.
Skills and Competencies
Previous experience performing low, medium, and high voltage switching operations for various equipment in various substation configurations.
Ability to understand, comprehend, and explain one-line, three-line, AC/DC schemes, connection diagrams, specific circuits, and transformer configurations.
Experience using applicable programming/testing software as it relates to protective relaying.
Previous metering experience testing ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, and power factor meters.
Understand the purpose of and perform basic current & potential transformer tests, capacitor bank tests, and ground grid tests.
Understand different types of transducers and the purpose of each.
Proven knowledge of Vacuum versus Air Circuit Breakers.
Understand the difference between Oil & Gas circuit breakers.
Basic knowledge of Line Terminal Equipment within a substation.
Ability to define typical AC & DC fundamentals.
Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, and NETA standards.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Power Triangle.
Basic knowledge of electrical components, devices, and symbols.
Proven communication skills, both oral and written, to convey thoughts and facts to a diverse group of individuals, including administrators, engineers, and senior management.
Ability to work effectively and lead others in a team-based environment.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Ability to work safely in hazardous situations within high voltage substations, petrochemical plants, refineries, and other safety critical locations.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
TWIC card required or ability to obtain one.
Must pass pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background checks; continue to pass all random and client-required checks.
Ability to travel up to 50% required.
Flexibility for frequent overtime.
Physical Requirements
Adjusted work schedule may involve long days, evenings, weekends, in order to meet customer requirements.>\ Must be able to work on feet throughout the work shift.
At times will be required to work in austere working conditions.
Be able to properly lift up to 50 lbs.
Travel to job sites is required.
