The Lynchburg Regional Airport is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented, mechanically inclined, results-driven Airport Maintenance Technician I to join our team of aviation professionals. POSITION SUMMARY
The Airport Maintenance Technician I performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and operational support duties essential to the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the Lynchburg Regional Airport. This position supports airport infrastructure, terminal facilities, airfield systems, and equipment through preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and emergency response activities. Working as part of a collaborative airport maintenance team, the Airport Maintenance Technician interacts regularly with airport tenants, airlines, and internal stakeholders to address maintenance needs and operational issues in a timely and professional manner. The position requires mechanical aptitude, adaptability, and the ability to work independently while adhering to applicable FAA regulations, airport policies, and safety standards. We require the Technician I to obtain and maintain required airport security credentials, operate vehicles and equipment on the airfield, utilize radios and work order systems, and participate in rotating on-call and after-hours assignments, including snow removal and emergency response. This role plays a critical part in maintaining airport facilities, airfield lighting and navigational aids, and overall readiness of the airport environment for safe aircraft operations and customer service excellence. Duties and Responsibilities
Performs preventive maintenance work on airport buildings, facilities, and equipment; Responds and coordinates maintenance repair items with airport tenants and airline staff; Performs minor repairs on facility doors, windows, and floors; Ability to obtain and maintain airport security access credentials, drive on airfield movement areas while operating City vehicles; Operates FAA and City radios; Preparation of interior and exterior facilities walls and performs spackling, sanding, and painting duties; Repairs desks, tables, chairs, and other office furniture; Performs minor repair and preventive maintenance tasks and has general working knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, HVAS, carpentry, electrical, and lighting systems; Ability to use computers, tablets, and work order systems for maintenance duties; Knowledge or ability to operate heavy equipment on Runways, Taxiways, and roadways, such as Snow Plows, Brooms, Blowers, Sprayers and Loaders; Required to respond to rotating on-call duty assignments for maintenance emergencies, snow removal activities, and other special events, which could include responding during holidays, weekends, and after hours; Repairs, inspects, and maintains airfield runways lighting, signs, beacon, NAVAIDS; Windcone, and VASI systems; Assist in the maintenance and repair of airport vehicles and machinery; Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations; Document and report maintenance activities and any potential issues; Repairs and inspects conveyor systems and passenger boarding bridge; Knowledge of minor asphalt and surface repairs, such as crack sealing, pot hole,s and surface painted markings; Responds to emergency calls; Performs other related duties as assigned; ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the training of airport employees; Performs rough and finished carpentry; Repairs and replaces roofs; Build forms, pours, and finishes concrete; Other duties to provide directly or indirectly services to citizens as may be assigned. When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery. Successful completion of all FAA employment requirements, including drug and alcohol screens, police records check, employment background check, etc.. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
