HDR Engineering is currently seeking a
Distribution Section Manager
to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals. As a Distribution Business Class Lead in a well‑established Power Delivery practice, you’ll draw upon your broad technical knowledge and experience in the design and construction of electric overhead and underground distribution line projects to lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams. Having previously performed a leading technical role on increasingly complex distribution line projects, you’ll be ready to undertake greater challenges and responsibilities.
Duties also include building local teams and/or leveraging existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world‑class services to clients. You may also support business development activities, including technical support of proposal development for existing and/or new clients across the practice. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor and train junior technical staff locally and/or in other offices.
Responsibilities
Leverage technical experience and expertise while working in close coordination with a PM, to manage and execute the engineering and design components of distribution projects.
Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspects of distribution projects.
Work independently and/or direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, CADD technicians, and administrative staff.
Support the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
Coordinate and/or lead the QA/QC process on projects per HDR’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements with a commitment to delivering world‑class quality.
Perform quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
Participate in project reviews as needed.
At times, lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to the electrical distribution industry.
At times, assist with development of technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
Preferred Qualifications
PE License
Development of technical papers and/or presentations that showcase technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM
Overhead and underground electrical design experience
Experience with electrical and planning analysis software such as CYMCAP, ETAP, or Polywater Pull Planner
Experience with design tools for pole loading analysis, e.g., PLS‑CADD, O‑calc, SpidaCalc, or Pole Foreman
Experience using CAD software packages for Electrical Distribution such as PLS‑CADD, MicroStation/AutoCAD/ArcGIS
Experience with New Business Designs for Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Projects
Experience with reliability, grid modernization, electrification and conversion projects
Experience with data center and renewables projects
Professional Attributes
