Role Description The Operations Supervisor directly supervises operational activities in assigned sectors by monitoring, maintaining, and adjusting work assignments as needed to ensure service requirements are met.
General Duties/Responsibilities
Monitors traffic to ensure schedule adherence by serving as a Road Supervisor, Service Coordinator, working in the Radio Room, or at Dispatch.
Ensures all runs are dispatched on time by dispatching personnel and equipment in response to service requests.
Monitors bus operators reporting to work for fitness for duty ensuring compliance with the Company’s mandates, policies, and procedures.
Formulates responses to situations as they arise to minimize disruptions in service and maintain safety.
Communicates alternate route detours when necessary, based on construction, accidents, or other special conditions.
Responds to and investigates all accidents and incidents during tour of duty.
Provides prompt notification of managerial personnel of serious incidents and accidents to ensure that reporting requirements are met.
Contact and interacts with appropriate emergency services, secures accident scenes, assesses property damage, and assists operator in gathering accident/incident information (e.g., witness statements, vehicle information, police reports, photos).
Prepares and maintains manual and computerized files and records including operations reports, incident logs, accident reports, and data concerning service interruptions, cancellations, and vehicle breakdowns.
Completes attendance records, daily absentee reports, extra board work assignments, dispatch sheet, and records all required information.
Reports to hospital where passengers or others involved are transported, gathering pertinent information and notifying company officials as appropriate and providing timely updates to appropriate personnel.
Monitors drivers for safe operation of vehicles, issuing violations for improper lane changes, excessive speed, tailgating, etc.
Monitors and supervises overall performance; investigates service complaints from Director of Operations or Westchester County Department of Transportation; records driving infractions or violations of company policy or procedure; answers drivers’ questions regarding routes, policy, etc.; counsels drivers on performance when necessary.
Act as bus operator to meet company demands.
Position Qualifications
Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
Must hold and maintain an excellent New York State Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements.
Must maintain 19-A qualification.
Minimum of 1 year’s experience in the transportation industry operating a commercial vehicle, preferably a bus.
Minimum of 1-year supervisory experience preferred.
No traffic violations, penalties, or chargeable accidents within the last year.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and self‑motivated.
Ability to operate/drive a bus on an emergency basis, as needed.
Strong knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Suite.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Ability to meet physical requirements in responding to emergencies.
Ability to perform bus-related duties, e.g., light bus maintenance.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to use phone and radio systems.
Ability to drive company vehicles including cars and commercial buses.
Ability to work in both office and field environment.
Ability to read, write and converse in English.
Ability to climb stairs, reach above shoulder level, walk extended distance, stand in moving vehicle, kneel, and sit for an undefined amount of time.
Ability to work in an environment with dust, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, indoor and outdoor weather conditions for an undefined amount of time.
Ability to bend, lift, push and pull, up to 30 lbs. without assistance.
Able to maintain high levels of confidentiality, credibility and professionalism.
Ability to work days, evenings (including overnights), weekdays, weekends, holidays and overtime hours.
