Responsibilities

Supervises and participates in the repair and maintenance of buildings;

Performs skilled building maintenance repair work, plans, lays out, schedules and assigns work of building maintenance workers from work orders received by supervisors or project managers;

Instructs subordinates and demonstrates proper work methods;

Works alongside subordinates to set pace and quality of work;

Checks and inspects buildings, structures, equipment and facilities for needed repairs;

Estimates material and labor costs; requisitions materials;

Inspects work in progress and upon completion for proper quality of work;

Makes oral and written reports of work completed by the crew;

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Experience and Training Six (6) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance repair work, of which two (2) years shall have been as a fully competent worker (journeyworker level), or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Driver's License Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), federal law states that "an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who: (1) has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution. (2) has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. (3) has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged the activity described in #2 above. (4) has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment."

Testing Information The examination for this recruitment will be conducted on an unassembled basis where the examination score is based on an evaluation and rating of your education and experience.
