The

Senior EHS Manager - Lansing Operations

is a strategic and operational leader for all Environmental, Health & Safety programs across Neogen’s Lansing Operations; the campus consists of multiple locations across Lansing, MI, including Manufacturing, Distribution, R&D, Laboratory, Machining, and HQ administrative offices.

Reporting to the Senior Director - Global EHS Operations, this role is responsible for driving Safety and Environmental compliance programs and providing expertise across all EHS domains and operational areas. This leader will simplify, standardize, and sustain all EHS solutions across the campus by collaborating with operational stakeholders and OneEHS team members. The Senior EHS Leader will serve as the subject‑matter technical expert for all EHS compliance and program execution needs.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a strategic EHS and Risk Control plan for all Lansing Operations.

Own and provide oversight and governance of multi‑site level EHS programs, with a strong focus on environmental domains such as air emission permits, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and regulated waste, EPCRA, and SPCC compliance.

Act as a strategic partner to the EHS Governance function, integrating EHS considerations into lab operations, manufacturing processes, and high‑risk activities.

Serve as a trusted EHS advisor to site senior leadership and cross‑functional teams, providing guidance on complex risk management and regulatory compliance matters.

Collaborate with Facilities & Engineering during capital projects and manufacturing operations to integrate EHS into site operations and project planning.

Lead the development and deployment of innovative EHS solutions, leveraging data analytics to identify trends and drive data‑informed decision‑making.

Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for operational and infrastructure changes, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.

Develop and maintain site‑specific environmental management plans, ensuring timely reporting, permitting and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Lead investigations into complex environmental and safety incidents, utilizing root cause analysis to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).

Implement global EHS standards ensuring compliance excellence across Lansing operations.

Deliver compliance strategies for all Safety & Environmental needs.

Drive Management of Change programs.

Identify industrial hygiene needs and solutions while working with EHS Governance teams.

Drive key performance indicators (KPIs) for assigned programs and ensure alignment with ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 standards.

Core EHS Program Responsibilities

Exposure Control: audit and assist in auditing the Neogen Global Exposure Control programs, including IH sampling, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, bloodborne pathogens, radiation, and freezer/cryogen programs.

Ergonomics: establish ergonomics program throughout all Lansing operations, integrating design criteria to mitigate musculoskeletal disorder risks.

Management of Change: launch MOC programs integrated with key stakeholder systems, ensuring employee risk mitigation.

Innovative EHS Processes: create standardized EHS solutions, tools and training programs across diverse manufacturing and non‑manufacturing environments.

Stakeholder Collaboration: act as key liaison between internal and external stakeholders to integrate EHS requirements into company processes.

Risk Management Enhancements: implement robust risk management strategies for Neogen equipment and automation processes.

Process Optimization: streamline EHS processes using innovative tools and methodologies.

Best Practices: foster a culture of continuous improvement by sharing best practices and lessons learned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an EHS‑related field or a bachelor’s degree in a non‑EHS science or engineering‑related field.

10+ years of combined experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, chemical, or heavy industry.

Strong expertise (minimum 8 years) in environmental compliance management.

In‑depth application experience in major source / title V air permits, EtO compliance, LQG RCRA hazardous waste, medical waste disposal, SPCC, SWPPP, flammable liquid storage, and SARA/EPCRA reporting.

Proven EHS technical implementation expertise in NFPA codes for flammable liquids and gases, and life‑safety codes within manufacturing operations.

Ability to travel up to 25% (or as needed globally).

Onsite role in Lansing, MI; remote/WFH does not apply.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing a team of EHS professionals.

Union and non‑union collaboration experience.

Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, with practical application of Lean Six Sigma / Kaizen / 5S.

Proficiency in ergonomic risk assessment methodologies (e.g., REBA, RULA).

Ability to become a global environmental SME.

Working knowledge of combustible dusts, biologic agents, EtO and other sterilization techniques.

Experience with performance metrics, process improvements and Lean techniques.

Proficiency in developing and implementing SOPs, management plans, and training programs.

Ability to leverage data and analytics to inform decisions and program improvements.

Security management experience.

Workers’ compensation management techniques.
