Job Summary PetSmart’s Process Lead (Retail Operations Supervisor) shares responsibility for driving operational excellence across stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. Responsibilities include merchandising and inventory management, pet care operations, opening/closing the store, overseeing associates, and maintaining a safe and organized environment.
Essential Responsibilities People Leadership
Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, product knowledge, and presentation standards.
Facilitate associate development through training, onboarding, mentoring, and coaching.
Delegate and validate completion of daily tasks.
Lead and direct associates when acting as leader on duty.
Address and administer associate complaints and grievances.
Recognize and celebrate associates driving overall engagement.
Store Operations and Overall Store Experience
Execute merchandise strategies to optimize sales, including receiving, product placement, seasonal displays, and promotional setups.
Manage inventory levels, conduct audits, and analyze sales trends for replenishment and markdowns.
Operate POS systems and handle cash transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Maintain store standards and enforce company policies, procedures, and code of ethics.
Share responsibility for store opening and closing procedures.
Complete monthly live cycle counts and address discrepancies.
Maintain pet care standards: cleaning, feeding, providing water, and caring for new arrivals and sick pets.
Support online orders, pickups, and ship‑from‑store experiences.
Take immediate action on sick or injured pets, ensuring safe transport to a vet.
Follow policies for preparation and reception of new store‑owned pet arrivals.
Qualifications
2+ years of retail supervisory experience in a customer‑focused environment.
Full‑time availability with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct reports, but expected to guide and support associate development.
Provide feedback on associate performance to direct supervisor.
Act as leader when other leaders are absent.
Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment
Stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands frequently; reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed.
Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly, occasional team lifts over 100 lbs.
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, a wet environment, and live animals.
