Sports and Aquatics Lead Location: Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center (JCC Ranch Camp)

The JCC Ranch Camp is an overnight summer camp in Denver. It offers a learning environment for staff and campers where teamwork and safety are top priorities.

All Cabin Staff Responsibilities

Take care of campers by prioritizing their physical, social, and emotional health, safety, and well‑being.

Work as a team with co‑staff to ensure each day runs smoothly, follow the schedule, and complete daily camper notes.

Create a community that you and campers want to be a part of.

Include everyone and ensure every camper is included.

Engage in camp life: ride horses, swim, camp, play games, sing songs, roast s’mores and participate in all camper activities.

Know where campers are and what they are doing at all times.

Manage camper behavior using positive behavior management techniques learned in Staff Orientation.

Be flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing camp circumstances.

Live in a bunk with co‑staff and campers.

Fill out daily Bunk Notes to track camper health, cabin dynamics, and overall well‑being.

Perform other duties as assigned, such as creating special themed activities.

Sports and Aquatics Program Staff Responsibilities

Create and run multiple programs each day in court sports, field sports, and pool for campers of all ages.

Document program details for future staff use.

Collaborate with the program team to create engaging staff and all‑camp programming.

Facilitate and support all sports and aquatics activities, from material organization to sports tournaments, teaching sportsmanship, and running pool games.

As a lifeguard, ensure camper and staff safety at the pool through briefings and policy enforcement.

Help with pool cleanup, chemical log management, and surrounding area maintenance.

Specialize in one branch of traditional programming and hold additional responsibility for that area.

Leadership Responsibilities (If Program Area Lead)

Help develop staff programming such as Oneg events or staff appreciation.

Help design all‑camp programming such as evening events or special days.

Act as a mentor in the Staff in Training (SIT) program.

Attend staff orientations and live at camp during the summer season (minimum 5–6 weeks).

Complete a 7‑hour online lifeguard training for those required.

Physical Demands and Working Environment Operative auditory and visual functioning required. Must walk at least 2 miles per day, including stairs and uneven terrain. Ability to stand, sit, run, swim, lift or block campers when necessary. The job may involve work indoors in loud spaces and outdoors under the sun. Requires working in a hectic, sometimes stressful environment while maintaining a high standard of care.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum age 18, or 17 with high‑school graduation.

One year experience in a child‑care setting or a strong interest in professional child‑care.

One year teaching or leading sports activities in child‑care or school settings.

Must satisfy employment requirements of Staenberg‑Loup JCC (background screening, references, documentation, CDHS compliance).

Ability to obtain or pass Lifeguard certification before camp begins.

High energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and open‑minded attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a camp environment.

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Current Lifeguard Certificate (training provided as needed).

College coursework or equivalent high‑school diploma/GED.

Benefits Overview This is a seasonal position and therefore ineligible for benefits.
