Title: Area Manager, Fulfillment Operations (Transportation Focus)
Location: 400 Smoketree Plaza, North Aurora, IL 60542
Shift: 4:30pm - 2:00am, Monday - Friday (with rotation as needed)
Role Description: We are seeking an energetic and experienced Area Manager to further support our transportation expansion. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations and relations for all local primary transportation services in and around the Fort Worth, TX market. Duties and responsibilities will follow: Dedicated freight runs, pick‑up and drop‑off of packages to our final‑mile carrier partners, while supporting internal operations around receiving and stowing. ShipBob’s goal is to provide a cost‑effective transportation solution that maximizes driver/trailer utilization, enhances on‑time pickup/deliveries, while exceeding our overall productivity and merchant expectations. This role reports to the General Manager.
What you’ll do:
Partner with other Area Managers to balance labor ensuring we are operating an efficient shift while meeting all goals.
Monitor and manage daily delivery schedules, optimize routes, and address any disruptions or delays.
Work with a network of local and national carriers to ensure timely and cost‑effective transportation solutions.
Ensure teams are properly trained on processes and procedures, understand metrics and performance goals, and that their needs are addressed.
Actively foster employee engagement onsite by participating in activities, events, and programs that contribute to workplace culture and employee wellbeing.
Enforce all safety regulations and procedures within the transportation area to ensure a smooth and safe workflow.
Oversee yard operations, including tracking inbound and outbound trailers to maintain organized logistics.
Review weekly work forecasts and identify productivity requirements to meet overall building objectives.
Final Mile Sort Center
Monitor forecasted volumes to ensure sufficient daily carrier pick‑up and drop‑off capacity.
Leverage dedicated freight capacity, route and manage local final‑mile direct inject runs.
Ensure all carrier pick‑ups from the West Coast ShipBob Sort Center and drop‑offs at local final‑mile carrier sort centers meet critical injection times.
Report on time pick‑up and/or on time drop‑offs relative to carrier acceptance scans.
Escalate carrier performance issues to Carrier Managers.
Investigate and resolve operational issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Support all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all associates.
Work closely with departments such as receiving, shipping, and warehouse management to coordinate logistics and address concerns.
Review and approve associate timecards daily.
Supervise daily workflows to ensure products are handled and stored correctly in accordance with defined safety and quality procedures.
Responsible for the selection, approval, and ongoing oversight of third-party transportation providers.
Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.
What you’ll bring to the table:
1+ years of people management and operational leadership experience within a high‑volume 3PL fulfillment environment.
2-3 years’ broad experience in Transportation, with final‑mile carriers and routing.
Knowledge of proper loading techniques, cubic measurement and space utilization techniques.
Ability to manage performance, deliver feedback, train and develop talent for professional growth.
Solid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerBI.
Understanding of DOT and TDR Regulations.
Strong analytical skills and experience tracking and achieving KPIs.
Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
Hard‑working with a focus on learning, detail‑oriented, and passionate about helping small businesses compete online.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders and carrier partners.
Must be flexible and willing to work the demands of the department which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shift support during peak season.

Compensation: ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay-for-performance approach.
The full base pay range for this position in our compensation architecture is $54,878 - $91,463. In addition to base salary, this role includes the opportunity to be eligible for participation in the Company’s discretionary bonus plan based on Company’s plans and in accordance with Company’s policies.
