Commissioning Manager I/II – Data Center A leading mission‑critical construction team is seeking a
Commissioning Project Manager
to support a major
420+ MW hyperscale data center
project in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge technology, collaborate with industry experts, and grow within a fast‑paced, innovative environment.
Role Overview The
Commissioning Manager I
oversees assigned commissioning scopes, ensuring proper installation, start‑up, and full functionality of equipment, systems, and facilities. This position works closely with contractors, project teams, and operations staff throughout the commissioning lifecycle and typically reports to the Senior Commissioning Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Manage commissioning activities across Levels 1–5, including planning, scheduling, and subcontract coordination
Lead project meetings and communicate progress, risks, and expectations to stakeholders
Provide weekly reporting on scope, schedule, and budget performance
Ensure commissioning processes meet quality standards and client expectations
Review submittals, designs, drawings, and commissioning documentation
Develop start‑up procedures, functional test scripts, and IST scripts
Oversee project closeout, including O&M turnover, training, and final documentation
Collaborate with safety, engineering, quality control, and trade partners to resolve schedule or cost issues
Troubleshoot installation and operational problems and coordinate resolutions
Review NETA and thermal imaging test documentation
Create energization and load banking plans
Lead Level 3 device testing and support Level 4 testing for EPMS and BMS systems
Conduct pre‑commissioning equipment checks and perform integrated systems testing
Manage dispute resolution within delegated authority
Recommend value engineering opportunities
Mentor team members and support ongoing development
Experience
Minimum 5 years of construction project management, mechanical, or electrical experience
At least 3 years in HVAC, fire protection, controls, or electrical testing
Data center commissioning experience
with hyperscale clients preferred
Demonstrated leadership and mentorship experience
Familiarity with construction law, business practices, and LEAN principles is beneficial
OSHA 10 or 30 preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Skills
Strong leadership and team development abilities
Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and negotiation skills
Clear written and verbal communication
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Solid understanding of commissioning practices for electrical and mechanical systems
Technology
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Experience with Procore, JDE, Bluebeam, and scheduling software (training provided)
