4-H Youth Education Safety Belt Extension Program Worker Employer:

Position Type:

Temporary (on‑call), $20.00 per hour, 26 hours per week, end date September 30, 2026.

Location:

Clare/Gladwin, Lapeer, Houghton, Gogebic (on‑call across these counties).

Michigan State University Extension has been awarded a one‑year grant from the Office of Highway Planning and Safety to educate youth on seatbelt safety and the dangers of distracted driving. The 4‑H program is hiring four Temporary On‑call positions to support the project.

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver direct programming for youth audiences, focusing on seat belt use and distracted driving awareness.

Offer programs in-person and/or virtually, through after‑school initiatives, short‑term/special interest programs, and school enrichment efforts.

Engage in outreach during community events such as fairs and festivals.

Provide youth seat belt educational programming, program promotion, expansion, and evaluation in a welcoming and collaborative environment.

Build and maintain partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance program reach and impact.

Create and contribute to MSU Extension’s social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, X) by posting bi‑weekly.

Prepare and submit program information, evaluations, and documentation in alignment with MSU Extension policies and deadlines.

Provide learning opportunities using accessible technology, media platforms, group meetings, workshops, and individual interactions, operating independently to ensure program goals are met and delivery aligns with established guidelines.

Perform additional duties or projects assigned by your supervisor as needed.

Desired Qualifications

Minimum of one year of experience in youth and/or program development and management.

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Proven ability to establish and work with a network of constituents and community members, respecting diversity across multiple dimensions.

Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.

Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc., up to 25 lbs.

Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches reflecting awareness of social, cultural, and economic diversity.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Travel within local and surrounding communities and occasional long‑distance travel required.

Proficiency in technology (web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
