Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Shared 24/7 accountability with Nursing Operations Manager

Participates in recruitment and selection of new team members for the unit

Coordinates with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement

Investigates event reports and provides feedback to the team

Oversees unit staffing schedules to ensure appropriate mix of staff

Maintains oversight of patient flow and intervenes as indicated to achieve outcomes

Performs Nurse Leader rounds and reviews, and participates in process/quality improvement initiatives

Ensures customer experience is upheld and provides service recovery to patients and families

Interfaces with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation, and coordinate nursing activities

Participates in staff meetings, GEMBA board, or huddles; demonstrates ownership of unit and outcomes

Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs

Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment

Respects rights and privacy of others and holds staff information in strict confidence

Ensures incident reports are completed appropriately and follows up with event reports

Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other standards

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures

Advocates on behalf of nursing staff to represent concerns of patients, families, and staff

Demonstrates superior clinical and critical thinking skills for the unit/department

Performance/Quality Improvement

Monitors compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends and leads the team on process/quality improvement initiatives

Ensures practice changes are evidence‑based, promote high‑quality nursing practice, and align with research, organization, and national standards

Manages time and resources efficiently to maximize unit/department productivity

Promotes cost‑effective management of equipment and supplies

Qualifications

Education/Training

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required if no Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), or BSN with graduate degree in Business or a health‑related field preferred

Licensure/Certification

Current licensure as a registered nurse in Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)

Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

May require one or more of the following certifications based on patient population: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)

Experience

Two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute setting
