The Weld Engineer role ensures welding operations meet industry standards, customer requirements, and internal quality expectations. Provides technical expertise, oversees welder qualification programs, supports process improvements, and collaborates cross‑functionally to resolve welding‑related challenges.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the development of robust training and testing program to certify welders in compliance with industry standards and customer requirements and maintains requisite welder continuity logs.
Responsible for the development of new, and the maintenance of existing, weld procedures. Creates WPS’s and PQR’s for both robotic and manual processes.
Mentors the training of welders in defect identification, weld gauges and welding symbols.
Creates and maintains weld metrics per customer requirements and as requested internally.
Responsible for new developments in the welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
Manages technical personnel in performing inspections (audits) to ensure workers’ compliance with established welding procedures and practices.
Collaborates across departments to exchange ideas, information or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
Provides technical oversight and coordination of the maintenance and calibration of welding equipment.
Maintains and recommends improvements in the welding lab.
Reviews and recommends new equipment and machinery available from commercial sources.
Conducts root cause analysis and offers recommendations for improvement for weld failures.
Supports new product development by reviewing weld processes & material requirements.
Assist with other projects as needed or assigned.
Minimum Education Associate’s degree in welding, fabrication or a related field (preferred). 5+ years in a fabrication environment. AWS CWI certification required.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in welding, fabrication or other related fields of study is preferred.
Certificate in welding with the appropriate level and related experience may be considered.
5+ years in a fabrication environment.
AWS CWI certification is required.
Fundamental knowledge of NDT methods preferred.
Experience with Project Management, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering and/or Computer Controls is desired.
AWS/ASME/AISC/CWB code knowledge is preferred.
Familiarity with metallurgy, heat treatment and material behavior under stress.
Robust communication skills.
Ability to effectively guide and train others.
Must have knowledge of manufacturing administration, principles and practices.
Attention to detail to clearly manage weld data.
Strong problem solving.
Comfortable working with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PPT.
