Job Overview
We are seeking an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) to join our commercial HVAC manufacturing facility. The CWI will be responsible for inspecting welded assemblies and components to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications. This role will also oversee welder qualification testing and welding procedure qualification, ensuring that our weld quality meets internal and external requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform visual weld inspections on finished parts, subassemblies, and fabricated structures in accordance with AWS and ASME standards.
Interpret and apply requirements from AWS and/or ASME standards.
Conduct and document welder qualification tests and maintain certification records.
Assist in the development and qualification of new welding procedures as production requirements evolve.
Verify welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualification records (WPQ) for accuracy and compliance.
Audit and monitor shop floor welding operations to ensure adherence to approved procedures and parameters.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve weld‑related nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
Maintain calibration and verification of inspection tools and gauges.
Participate in internal and external audits related to welding and fabrication quality.
Provide technical support and training to welders and supervisors regarding code interpretation and best practices.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on weld quality, consistency, and process control.
Qualifications
Current AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification required.
Proficient in documentation, data entry, and use of quality management systems (QMS).
Knowledge of weld procedures, procedure qualifications, and welder qualifications.
Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.
Familiarity with common HVAC fabrication processes such as MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and resistance spot welding.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.
