Salary: $5,608.00 - $6,723.00 per month. New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Job Description and Duties Within the Division of Equipment (DOE) and under the direction of a Highway Mechanic Supervisor and/or a Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic Leadworker, the incumbent will work in a shop and/or field environment, constructing, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing various equipment used in the Department's fleet. The incumbent will complete various records and reports, use computer equipment for various tasks, and may assist in instructing helpers, apprentices, or other employees.

The incumbent must possess a valid Class C driver license and assume responsibility for safety, proper use and handling of materials, tools, equipment, and facilities, using PPE. The role may require work outside, travel to field mechanic locations, or highway maintenance stations. Inclement weather (cold or heat) may be required. The position may involve daily shop operation. Assignments may be subject to travel, rotation, shifts, work hours, and days.

Eligibility

Eligibility determined by your score on the Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic exam.

New to state civil services must be on the state examination list.
