Based out of the Macon, GA facility and reporting to the Director of Construction, the Pipefitter will be engaged in fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining commercial HVAC piping systems. It is a role that primarily operates in industrial and commercial settings, ensuring pipes are properly fitted and connected to facilitate the flow of liquids, gases, and other substances. Refrigeration & hydronic piping experience is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Pipe Installation: Accurately measure, cut, and fit pipes according to engineering specifications and blueprints. Handle various pipe types—including steel, copper, plastic, and stainless steel—using tools such as saws, pipe cutters, and threaders.
Pipe Connection: Join pipes using welding, soldering, brazing, or mechanical fittings, ensuring connections are secure, leak‑free, and properly aligned. Install valves, gauges, and other control devices as needed.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and other technical documents to understand layout, pipe sizing, fitting locations, and routing plans.
Pipe Repair & Maintenance: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues (leaks, blockages, faulty components). Dismantle and replace damaged pipes, valves, or fittings, and perform routine maintenance tasks including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.
Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe environment. Use proper ventilation, handle hazardous materials safely, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE). Implement safety procedures during welding, cutting, or other high‑risk activities.
Collaboration: Work as part of a team that includes plumbers, welders, and other construction professionals. Communicate effectively to ensure smooth installation and operation of piping systems.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, measurements, and any modifications made to the piping system for future reference, maintenance, and compliance purposes.
Qualifications
Refrigeration & hydronic piping experience is required.
Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Climb and maintain balance on ladders, lifts, and scaffolds; stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed.
Capable of exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally or 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects as defined by physical activity requirements.
4 years of vocational preparation and a minimum of 5+ years related work experience.
Ability to read safety rules, instructions for tool use and maintenance, and mechanical drawing and layout procedures.
Ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
