Job Overview The selected Pipefitter candidate will support Platform Modernization (PM) teams, working closely with skilled trades on active class surface ships, submarines, and shore-based facilities. The role involves removal, installation, and upgrade of industrial equipment as part of fleet modernization contracts. Weekend and overtime hours may be required based on contract awards.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.

Support the trades team by working on active class vessels to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.

Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.

Execute routine and non-routine tasks, both within and outside of specialty, related to shipboard maintenance to meet contract standards at company, customer, and field locations.

Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.

Lay out and mark points and lines on pipe, tubing, and parts or subassemblies using rules, squares, scribes, or templates.

Cut, fit, assemble, bend, and position pipe, tubing, and support structures for brazing or welding into jigs, fixtures, and existing structures using hand and powered tools.

Apply comprehensive understanding of production processes and specialty trade functions to provide technical support, installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of shipboard systems and related equipment.

Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.

Participate in special projects as required.

Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and trip reports.

Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

Provide guidance and leadership to less-experienced welders and may serve as a group leader.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated silver brazing ability on required processes through qualification testing and a satisfactory grade from the Quality Assurance Team within the first three weeks of employment.

High School education or Trade School equivalency with at least 4 years of related experience; technical/professional certifications preferred.

Medical clearance to wear a half‑face respirator.

Knowledge and experience with standard pipe fitting procedures, bending processes for tubing and pipe, testing of installed piping systems, and Class P‑3a and P‑3b silver brazing processes in accordance with NAVSEA Tech Pub. 7000 and NAVSEA Standard Item 009‑12.

Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts, and work orders.

Ability to work from blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts, and work orders, and follow written and verbal instructions.

Capability to perform work outside of trade-specific requirements as team projects demand.

Knowledge of quality control steps and procedures; ability to follow and enforce safety procedures.

Experience working in a team environment with effective communication skills.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and maintain it throughout employment.

Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and keep them throughout employment.

Travel capability of 50% – 75% when not assigned to local tasking.

Provide hand tools and trade-specific PPE per trades designation.

Preferred Requirements

Current or prior silver brazing qualification certificates (Grade III, IV, and/or V).

Current or prior welding certificates applicable with MIL‑STD‑248.

Graduation or completion of a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program.

Current Shipyard Competent Person Certification.

Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate.

Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. Must be able to perform duties involving high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, work aloft or over vessel sides, and may require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
