Job Summary To provide master level skills and expertise in the installation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, remodeling, repair and servicing of the University's electrical systems from 12 volt up to and including 12,470 volts. Assembles, installs and repairs circuitry, switchgear, distribution systems and all related components. Frequently responsible for the training and supervision of less skilled workers.

Minimum Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience. 1 year of experience estimating small electrical jobs, construction drawing and plan review and supervising a small group of employees. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's license and an acceptable driving record along with a Texas Master Electrician License.

Preferred Education and Experience

Vocational/Technical Diploma or some College/Associate's Degree in related field

Commercial Electrical Inspector License

Electrical Thermography or Ultrasonic Technician certification

7 - 10 years of commercial or industrial electrical background

3 - 5 years of estimating small electrical jobs.

3 - 5 years of overseeing personnel up to 5 employees

3 - 5 years of construction drawing and plan review

Other Qualifications To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs service calls and work orders submitted by departments within the university, work could be performed off ladders, roof tops, or scaffolding; also responsible for keeping records of work and preventative maintenance logs.

Responsible for running conduit, pulling wire, installing and repairing electrical systems throughout the University, performs preventative maintenance on all electrical systems. Also overseeing training of less qualified workers while performing tasks.

Troubleshoots electrical system problems following detailed operational and maintenance procedures of existing and new electrical systems including lighting controls using infrared, ultrasonic and circuit tracers.

Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays and panels, plus assist more qualified personnel with 12,470 volt campus power system. Assist and consults with outside contractors and other departments to complete projects.

Surveys buildings and performs maintenance on equipment in a multi-trade working environment.

Leads, performs with, and gives direction to, skilled or less skilled workers, supervises and coordinates activities in conjunction with and in the absence of the immediate supervisor and manages projects and work load assignments as required. Perform all work in accordance with best safety practices.

Must be available for on call and emergency repairs as needed and performs all other duties as assigned.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and an acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.

Additional Information Work Notice:

Work will be performed on site and in-person. May be required to report to on‑site work location during campus closure. May be required to report to on‑site work location during inclement weather.
