To provide journeyman level skills and expertise in the installation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, remodeling, repair and servicing of the University’s electrical systems from 12 volt up to and including 12,470 volts. Assembles, installs and repairs circuitry, switchgear, distribution systems and all related components. Frequently responsible for the training and supervision of less skilled workers. Work performed in an educational and research environment. This position will be located at our Dallas location: 2126 W Mockingbird Ln Dallas, TX 75235.
Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of a year of commercial or industrial electrical experience along with experience estimating small electrical jobs and overseeing a small group of employees. Texas Journeyman Electrician license is required and must be able to possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Education and Experience
Vocational/Technical Diploma or some College/Associate’s Degree in related field
3–5 years of Commercial or industrial electrical experience
1–3 years of Estimating small electrical jobs
1–3 years of Overseeing personnel up to 5 employees
Other Qualifications To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs service calls and work orders submitted by departments within the University, work could be performed off ladders, roof tops, or scaffolding; also responsible for keeping records of work and preventative maintenance logs.
Responsible for running conduit, pulling wire, installing and repairing electrical systems throughout the University, performs preventative maintenance on all electrical systems. Also oversees training of less qualified workers while performing tasks.
Troubleshoots electrical system problems following detailed operational and maintenance procedures of existing and new electrical systems including lighting controls.
Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays and panels, plus assists more qualified personnel with 12,470 volt campus power system.
Surveys buildings and performs maintenance on equipment in a multi-trade working environment.
Perform all work in accordance with best safety management practices.
Must be available for on call and emergency repairs as needed and performs all other duties as assigned.
South Campus is a general maintenance shop so in addition to electrical work you will be assisting with painting, flooring, plumbing, HVAC and move and events plus other duties as assigned.
Additional Information Work Notice:
Work will be performed on site and in-person. May be required to report to on‑site work location during campus closure. May be required to report to on‑site work location during inclement weather.
